Day 2 In India

Day 2-January 4, 2014

Day 2 of our course started off with a well rested group. Today's visit took us to Artis Academy.  Artis Academy's goal is to be a leading provider in Flexible Learning for Professionals.  They offer courses in Project Management, IT Management, Quality Management and even Microsoft Certification classes.  Artis offers learning thru traditional classroom methods, E-Learning, Live Virtual Classes and Corporate Training.

Artis Academy recently formed after the founder left the IndiaCan franchise to offer a series of courses better suited for the Indian Professional.

We met with the company's founder  CS Shobha & learned all about her decades of experience with Project Management in India.  India  has transformed  from a country with no systematic processes, to a nation that leads globally in precision especially in areas of IT & ITES (IT Enabled Services).  We also learned that Shobha is married to a famous award winning Indian film director, named Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar.  You know he is famous if he has an IMDB page.  Together with a team of experts, Shobha also conducts acting courses and workshops.  Since India produces over a 1,000 films each year, there is constant demand for actors & actresses in many Bollywood productions or the local Kannada Cinema.

There was more to our visit than just finding out about Artis Academy, we also viewed a great presentation by Dr. Manish Mokshagundam.  He continued our education on India's rich history, its diverse population & its vibrant culture.

We started off with a brief history of India itself dating back to 70,000 BC & learned about the different eras throughout the country's existance. Since India is home to 1/5 of the world's population it is no wonder it has such a diverse composition.  During our overview, we learned about the various religions practicing in India, the most celebrated holidays and many other aspects of Indian culture.  I must say, my favorite part was learning all about different Indian cuisine from the different regions of the country.

Then we all got a chance to be teenagers on a Saturday night & went to the Forum Mall to see one of the many different ways that residents of Bangalore shop.

Yesterday after our lectures, we visited a bustling street with all kinds of shops selling everything from shoes to prescriptions to cell phones to American sweet corn.  Quite an interesting experience. Along the way we also saw some of the local scenery; a group playing cricket, a herd of goats eating the remains of some mangoes and many of the hungry dogs that roam the streets of Bangalore eating from the garbage. Today we saw some wildlife roaming the congested streets of the down town area.  You need your camera ready, because you never know when you are going to come across dogs, goats or even cows walking down the street!
